Personal statement.
Please
describe your proposed area of research and provide details on an
additional sheet.
The proposed
area of research should usually be in the form of an initial research
proposal of approximately 500 words, including an outline of your
research interests, your initial thoughts about a topic, references to
previous work, the methodology and general approach you wish to take.
You should
also indicate how this research will make an original contribution to
knowledge. Some departments require you to complete a more detailed
proposal before they can make a final decision on your application.
Check to see if this applies to the department you are applying to.
If you do
not have a firm research proposal you should still provide as much
information as possible with your application including possible topic
areas, and intended source of funding.
If you have
already reached an agreement with your prospective department about a
particular topic, or are applying for a specific vacancy, you need only
provide brief details of that project on your application form.

1. The names
and addresses, (and where possible email addresses) of two referees are
needed.
2. Please make sure that the persons you give as your referees are
willing and able to provide a reference for you.
3. Please submit two references together with your application form. The
references should be in sealed envelopes, with the referee’s signature
across the seal to ensure origin and confidentiality.
